PROVOCATION: 9/11 Memorial
Reflective Response -
The 9/11 Memorial was designed in 2004 by architect Michael Arad and landscape architect Peter Walker, in the downtown area where the Twin Towers once stood. The design for the memorial was chosen after an international competition to choose a design for a permanent memorial at the World Trade Center site. It was designed to be a contemplative space, a space to remember and mourn those who were lost in the attack. The design of the memorial pools create a visualization and physical representation of the concept being that the void left from these attacks will never be filled. This inspires my concept as it looks at representing a concept or idea visually, it is also a space for people to contemplate - the museum I am designing is a space of healing, therefore contemplation is crucial for the users to be fully engrossed in the space.
